First Christmas party at new Fairfield

Fizz and canapés with festive singing by Fairfield staff

The first Christmas party in new Fairfield was a lovely family occasion that helped to get everyone in a festive mood. Residents and their families joined staff, trustees and friends of Fairfield for festive fizz and a delicious selection of canapés.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by the staff and a number of their children singing a medley of Christmas songs, which was much enjoyed and appreciated by the residents. Dressed in Christmas jumpers and outfits, they smiled their way through wonderful renditions of Last Christmas, Jingle Bells, White Christmas and other popular festive songs. Some of the residents enjoyed singing along and tapping their feet to the tunes!

The party was held in the beautiful new lounge, which looked resplendent with a pretty Christmas tree and decorations. The room was packed with guests of all ages including a newborn baby and some toddlers who had come to visit their great great grand parent. Some of the Fairfield trustees circulated amongst the throng, chatting to residents and meeting their relatives.

The canapés were provided by the new chef, who has only been in the post for a week. The selection included mini quiches and spring rolls, samosas and breaded prawns followed by bite sized stollen, mince pies and Christmas cake. So many people commented on how delicious they were!

It was a very happy occasion seeing everyone gathered together in the lounge for the first Christmas party in the new home

Whilst it is usually a happy occasion, for some Christmas can be a sad time. For those who are missing someone special this Christmas, the staff have made a tree of remembrance where residents can write the name of someone dear to them on a red heart and tie it to the memories tree.

The traditional wooden nativity scene that has graced Christmases at Fairfield for many years has moved with us and is out on display at our new home, making a focal point in the entrance area and reminding us all of what a busy year we’ve had. This time last year we were celebrating Christmas in our old Victorian home and now we are about to enjoy our first Christmas in our brand new care home. May it be a very merry one too!
