Easter Menus at Fairfield

Our chef is serving some traditional dishes as we celebrate Easter at Fairfield

The chef at Fairfield is planning some extra special menus as we celebrate Easter together. The kitchen provides delicious food that is nutritional and that the residents enjoy eating on a daily basis, but at special times of year we like to keep the traditions of serving seasonal dishes.

One tradition is to eat hot cross buns on Good Friday. Hot cross buns with their combination of spicy, sweet and fruity flavours have a pastry cross on top of the buns symbolising the cross that Jesus was crucified on. In ages past, they were sold by street vendors who sang a little song about them that many of us still remember and can sing: Hot cross buns, hot cross buns, one a penny, two a penny, hot cross buns. We will enjoy buttered hot cross buns with our afternoon tea on Good Friday.

Another tradition is to eat fish as a substitute for meat on Good Friday and our chef is continuing with this custom but has added a more modern twist by serving poached hake in a tomato and white bean casssolet with sauté potatoes and broccoli. On Easter Sunday we will enjoy roast turkey with all the trimmings, rather like on Christmas Day. We all love a delicious slice of roast turkey with stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots and turkey gravy!

Fairfield chef Lukas, said, “The kitchen team work hard to make sure that we deliver truly sensational seasonal meals over the Easter period that we can be proud of and that the residents enjoy. We like to keep traditions alive and the residents really do appreciate this.”

We deliver Easter eggs to the residents on their breakfast trays on Easter Sunday

Alison Parry, manager

Although we will not have an in-house church service on Easter Sunday, there will be plenty of volunteers on hand to take any residents who want to worship along to the local churches. Alison Parry, Fairfield manager adds, “We all enjoy celebrating Easter here at Fairfield. We will deliver Easter eggs to the residents on their breakfast trays on Easter Sunday and we will serve Easter themed cakes and mini eggs with coffee after meals over the weekend.”
