Construction of the new Fairfield begins

The building of our new home is underway

Construction is finally underway on our new home! The new Fairfield residential care home is being built in the garden of the original Fairfield and adjacent to student accommodation. When it is open, the new Fairfield home will share garden space with postgraduate students at University College (Univ), allowing for interaction between the residents of both institutions. Univ’s 50-year old rose garden, in particular, will provide an opportunity for young and old to meet, linking the generations together.

The state-of-the-art purpose built building has been designed to its specification by Oxford Architects. The new home will accommodate 38 residents in en-suite rooms with a range of communal areas and recreational rooms that have been designed to be light and airy, with views over the mature gardens. The new Fairfield residential home is expected to open in mid 2018.

 

 

Once the new Fairfield home is open, Univ will convert the existing Victorian residential care home building into post-graduate student accommodation.

John Cole, chair of Fairfield Trustees, said, “The start of this building project is a significant milestone in the history of Fairfield. Fairfield has been a home for the elderly since 1947 and we are proud of our independence and charitable status, which has enabled us to invest in this purpose-built brand new building. The new Fairfield will enable us to offer more bedrooms and the up to date and state of the art facilities will provide significant benefits to our residents.“

He adds, “Our well established and close working relationship with Univ will continue once the building is open, with young and old living side by side on this beautiful site in North Oxford.”

Oxford companies Bidwells LLP is project managing the development on behalf of Fairfield and Kingerlee Limited has been appointed as building contractors.
